The states where the most (and least) stressed people live

The states where the fruchtwein (and least) stressed people liveThe states where the most (and least) stressed people liveBet you didnt know April was Stress Awareness Month?A 2017 survey of 2,000 American workers found that the majority of workers are stressed on any given workday.Over 70% of respondents ranked their stress at Level 3 or higher (on a scale of 1-5), and mora than 60% said that they felt stressed three or more workdays per week, on average.Clearly, certain industries can produce more stressed out workers than others, but are there certain states that are home to the most stressed out people? Personal finance site WalletHub ranked which states had the most stressed-out people by looking at factors from hours worked per week to personal bankruptcy rate to share of adults getting adequate sleep. So which states have the least and most stressed people? The 10 most-stressed statesLouisianaNew MexicoWest VirginiaMississippiNevadaArkansasOklahomaAlabamaKentuckyTennesseeThe 10 least-stressed statesMinnesotaNorth DakotaUtahIowaSouth DakotaWisconsinColoradoMassachusettsHawaiiNebraskaSource WalletHubThe rankings analyzed four main areas Work-related stress, money-related stress, family-related stress, and health and safety-related stress. No states on the East Coast made the Top 10 on the most-stressed list, so perhaps New Yorkers arent the workaholics we think they are or theyve just figured out how to handle their stress. It seems that the further South you go, the more stress you will experience. However, if you are looking to have little stress in your life, head to Minnesota as this was the least stressed state in the whole country.Perhaps it is all the cows and farmland or that is a booming place for tech jobs. The Twin Cities added 3,300 technology jobs last year and is the 14th-largest tech employment region in the U.S., according to the Computing Technology Industry Association. Colorado and Utah, which also made it into this least stressed pack, have also seen a lot of growth in the tech sector and as a result, low unemployment rates.Somewhat surprisingly, California didnt make the least-stressed list despiteWalletHub recently ranking eight of its cities as the happiest places for people to live in America.Sleepy states fared wellFour of the states that were considered least-stressed (North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Colorado) also reported the most hours of sleep per night, once again proving that more sleep equals a happier and more productive worker.Other findings from the study includedHawaii has the lowest unemployment rate (2.4%), three times lower than in Alaska (highest at 7.2%)New Hampshire has the lowest share of the population living below the poverty line (8.5%), two-and-a-half times lower than Mississippi (highest at 22.3%)Utah has the lowest separation and divorce rate (16.18%), which is almost two times lower than the District of Columbia (highest at 28.63%)Utah has the lowest share of adults in fair or poor health, 11.98%, which is two times lower than Arkansas (highest at 24.44%)The District of Columbia has the most psychologists per 100,000 residents (97), which is almost seven times more than Alabama (fewest at 14)

4 lessons from historys great innovators you should never forget

4 lessons from historys great innovators you should never forget4 lessons from historys great innovators you should never forgetI spend a lot of time reading about entrepreneurship and neuerung because I admire people who take sensible but daring risks. I want to be more like them.I recently left Google to start a technology company. Ive spent much of my time talking with other founders. And Ive read countless books and articles about the nature of startups. But still, Ive struggled to answer this fundamental question What are the most important lessons from historys innovators?Thankfully, I discovered some thoughtful answers in the work of British author Harold Evans. The words he wrote left an indelible impression on me. And now Im going to share with you some his most important insights.Lesson 1 Make no assumptionsIgnorance that ignites curiosity is a better starting point than half-knowledge.?- ?HaroldEvansEdwin Armstrong exemplified this lesson. He was constantly trying to do thi ngs in radio circuitry he was told by the experts was impossible. He went on to invent FM Radio.Breakthroughs come from the discarding of assumptions.Being first is not always best.John Fitch was the first to operate a steamboat service, not the commonly presumed Robert Fulton. But Fulton learned from Fitchs mistakes and triumphed on a different river at a more propitious time. The same is true with Charles Goodyear, who was late to vulcanize rubber. And Isaac Singer, with his now iconic sewing machine.Inventors learn from failure. Their success comes from understanding failure and acting upon this knowledge. No man is a fool until he stops asking questions.?- ?Charles Proteus Steinmetz, who fostered the development of alternating current that made possible the expansion of the electric powerindustryLesson 2 Its OK to borrowMore innovations come from borrowing and combination than simple invention.Jean Nidetch did not invent the diet she used for Weight Watchers.Nolan Bushnell, who es tablished Atari, did not invent the first home made video game.Leo Baekeland (father of the plastics industry) borrowed from photographic chemistry to invent plastics.Elisha Otis (inventor of a safety device that prevents elevators from falling) built his first elevators using springs he had learned about making carriages.Wilbur Wright figured out how to turn an airplane by thinking about the way he turned a bicycle.I invented nothing new. I simply assembled into a car the discoveries of other men behind whom were centuries of work.?- ?HenryFordLesson 3 Nothing works the first timeToo often impatient entrepreneurs expect instant results. History shows us that there are a hundred setbacks for every change.?- ?HaroldEvansUSA Today, Amazon.com, and CNN struggled initially, but later thrived because their basic ideas were sound.Innovation is often cut too soon because backers fail to appreciate that it takes time to work out the wrinkles.Critics called Raymond Damadian a screaming lunat ic for thinking nuclear magnetic resonance might be used for medicine. And yet he created the first MRI scanning machine.Theodore Judah was crazy for advocating a railway line over the High Sierra. But he went on to promote, establish, and design the first transcontinental railroad. If youve got an innovative idea, and the majority does not pooh-pooh it, then the odds are you must not have a very good idea. When people thought I was loony, it did not bother me at all. In fact, I considered that I must really be onto something.?- ?Ted Turner (founder ofCNN)Lesson 4 The whole can be greater than the sum of its partsIsolated innovators may produce wonders but they are more likely to succeed in a knowledge network, whether connected by geography or electronics. Connections between innovators are ubiquitous?- ?one good innovation deserves another.?- ?HaroldEvansMany innovators flourish in partnerships. Take the partnership of Wozniak and Jobs at Apple. Or the partnership of Ida and Willia m Rosenthal at Maidenform. Then theres Marc Andreessen and Jim Clark at Netscape. The Wright brothers, and Sergey Brin and Larry Page at Google, the list goes on.Leo Baekeland corresponded with Thomas Edison, the Wright brothers, Henry Ford, the Duponts, and Bell.William Shockley hired Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore, whose circuits were used by Nolan Bushnell at Atari, the first company to hire Steve Jobs. The exploits of the innovators who have come before us can spark the ambitions of the next generation to make new technologies. To leave their own dent in the universe. We should pass down their lessons and their lore.

What to Do When You Miss a Recruiters Phone Call - Dont Panic!

What to Do When You Miss a Recruiters Phone Call - Dont PanicWhat to Do When You Miss a Recruiters Phone Call - Dont PanicYoure in the car driving to another job interview, and an unknown number calls you what do you do? If youre like most of us, you let it go to voicemail. Then you listen to your messages. Right? What happens when you listen to your messages and hear a recruiter telling you to please call him back about a potential job interview? You die just a little inside, then panic sets in, and then you pull across four lanes of rush hour besucherzahlen so you can call him back. WAIT, when you miss a recruiters phone call, do this insteadTake a few minutes to catch your breathYoure probably screaming inside your head, Are you nuts? Why wouldnt I call him back right away?Yes, we know there is an interview and possibly a job offer on the line. And, we also know that you shouldnt wait too long to return his call, but think about how your mind would be racing with hundreds of thoug hts about missing this very important phone call.Job recruiters have told us that it always catches them off-guard when a candidate calls them back in a complete panic. It just makes the conversation more complicated than necessary and they spend most of the phone call trying to reassure the candidate that everything is going to be alright. So, before you return the call completely out of breath, and making no sense, take a five-minute breather. The recruiter isnt going to change what he wanted to talk to you about just because you didnt pick up the phone on their first call. Just take a beat before dialing him back.Remember its okay if you get sent to voicemailNow its time to play the proverbial game of phone kalendertag Dont panic if you get sent to voicemail when you return his call. This happens all the time, and most recruiters (at least the reasonable ones) understand the game of phone tag and that it happens often. Were only human, so our anfangsbuchstabe reaction is to stop do ing everything and wait to hear back from them, but why risk missing a call again because you got caught up in something else? Once you leave your message, dont just sit there staring at your phone waiting for it to ring. Youre still looking for a job, right? So, get back to work looking for a job while you sit and wait for a callback.Be productive if youre not in the mood to job searchSilence can be so distracting when youre waiting for a recruiter to call you back. The anticipation can be so great that its hard to find the motivation to keep looking for a job. After all, youve put in a lot of long days job searching. Its okay to give yourself permission to do something else.Is there a book about a career interest youve been ignoring for months? Pick it up and spend a little time reading, it will help pass the time and you just might learn something beneficial. Maybe you have a hobby that you just havent had time for lately. Even though it seems like there are plenty of things you should be doing, take some time to do something for yourself. You will be surprised how productive you become. When theres a job offer on the line, nobody likes waiting to hear back and it only gets more painful when you play the phone tag game with someone who holds your future in their hands. Remember something, you will eventually connect, so dont torture yourself by sitting there hour after hour staring at your phone, willing it to ring.
